It is very common that we may experience neck stiffness and shoulder tension however, if you suffer from shoulder pain over a prolonged period of time then, it is a pain condition and you do not want to simply ignore it.

BASIC ANATOMY OF THE SHOULDER

Shoulder joints are rather complex, your arm or humerus bone is a ball shape like structure on the upper part of the arm which is attached to a deep hole that is known as the socket of the shoulder blade(scapula bone). The shoulder joint is also known as the glenohumeral – is called a ball-and-socket joint. Hence, giving you a full range of motion for your shoulder movement like: adduction, abduction, flexion, extension, internal rotation, external rotation, and 360° circumduction in the sagittal plane (Left & Right view of body part).

There are various muscles, ligaments and tendons that are responsible for the shoulder joint movement.  So, the most common shoulder pain symptoms involved in the relevant parts are the: trapezius muscle imbalance, adhesive capsulitis (inflammation of capsule tissue) or commonly known as frozen shoulder, subacromial bursitis, bicep tendonitis, teres minor & major muscles pain, infra & supraspinatus tendonitis, deltoid muscle pain, dislocation, subluxation etc;

The Scapula muscles are concentric with the shoulders rounded to the front, causing tension and stress on the shoulder blade. This pulls it and causes extreme stress on the shoulder muscle [infraspinatus muscle].  Such a kyphotic [slouching] sitting posture with both arms extending far out causes tenderness & sore pains in the triceps, teres minor and major muscle. With both arms rounded to the front, this squeezes the front pectoralis muscle [Chest muscle] consistently, which leads to the pulling of the supraspinatus tendon, eventually accumulating extreme tension in the bicep tendon.

SHOULDER PAIN CAUSES:

  • Tendon inflammation (bursitis or tendinitis) or tendon tear
  • Instability of joint
  • Imbalance muscle
  • Arthritis
  • Fracture (broken bone)
  • Pain Conditions Caused By Sports
  • Computer workstation posture pain
  • Poor and Inadequate pillow support Sleeping posture
There are 3 different types of pain:
  1. Acute pain
  2. Neuropathic Pain (Numbness & tingling sensation/pain)
  3. Chronic
The common pains and health adversities that entail from such poor sitting postures are:
  • Feeling fatigue
  • Shoulder pain
  • Numbness and tingling sensation on the shoulder blade
  • Radiating pain on the arm
  • Neck Stiffness
  • Weakness of the arm
  • Rotator cuff pain
WHAT ARE THE THERAPIES?

Over the years I have seen many patients with shoulder pain caused by the bad posture of rounding their shoulders with both their arms extended far out from the body. With their neck and head protruding beyond the point of their shoulders at the workstation.

Shoulder pains can be easily handled with therapy without any surgery or invasive methods like needle injections of corticosteroid or medications.  It is the underlying cause of such poor postures that needs to be addressed and corrected.

Pain Clinic @ Wellness Philosophy have more than over 20 years of experience in healing frozen shoulders and other relevant shoulder pains. The result are fast, safe, effective and it is non-invasive!  Call our pain clinician for more information at 62237170.
