You may not be aware or ignorant that poor postures can lead to neuromuscular disorder, degenerative joint, musculoskeletal disorder, accumulated trauma disorder and other pain symptoms.


In any form of motion, movement or physical activities and sports, our body muscles facilitate by contracting and lengthening to move the bone at the joints.  However, if the muscle group is inactive with very little movement of activities are conducted, it leads to weak muscle where circulation of blood stream is poor and subsequently, leads to adversity in our health.


Poor postures like bad sitting while at work, lifting or picking up a heavy object with your hand far away from your body, sleeping with poor or inadequate  mattress and pillow support and even in wrong sports posture can simply lead you to postural stress and pain.


Sitting in a poorly designed fitted office furniture with no proper support on the back of our seats can simply put our lower back in a continuous strain which can then result in lower back ache.  Working on our laptop or computer with hand stretched and lengthened away from our body over prolonged periods of time can subsequently accumulate high tension on the shoulder.  Most people who spend substantial amount of time working on the computer significantly increases the Front Head Postures Syndrome (FHP), with their head protruding far out from the shoulder. FHPS deviation of 2 to 5 inches from the shoulder can carry load of weight from 2 – 5kg on the neck, this can cause enormous amount of pain and stiffness on the neck which sometime results in headache, migraine and radiation of numbness and tingling pain to our shoulder and arm.


To be active and healthy, most of our perception is to engage in some form of physical activities or sports, but many a times we do not incorporate or have adequate knowledge of  injuries prevention measure in place hence, may be vulnerable to sports injuries, accidents and even death.


Most radiation of physical pain due to sports are often poor postures related, a golfer with weak lower back or imbalanced muscle can result in herniated or slip disc due to repetitive continuous strain and stress on the lumbar when swinging the club.  A marathon runner who runs with both his arms laterally far out from his body with unintentional shrugged shoulder has an increased chance of high shoulder tension that can lead to numbness and pain on the arms and shoulder blade.


When our muscles are in a stage of imbalance due to poor postures and repetitive movement or motion, they are particularly more prone to injury and at a  higher risk of accumulated trauma disorder.


It is highly recommended that before embarking in any sports or physical activities, one should seek professional help or trainer for advice.  Especially getting medical clearance is mandatory for sedentary individual as well as people with health conditions.


Metabolic Syndrome or obesity with excessive body weight should not embark into any form of exercises without any medical clearance as well as physical assessment.


Physical weight is one of the biggest factor of cause to our musculoskeletal pain and can lead to osteoarthritis especially on the lower back, knee and ankle.


In order to lead a physical pain free healthy life one should abide to the following:


  1. Keep your body weight in check with a balance healthy diet
  2. Stay active of at least 150mins a week avoid weekend warrior exercise
  3. Avoid sitting for more than 6 hours a day
  4. Be mindful with your postures and incorporate adequate support
  5. Daily stretches to increase body flexibility and stay limber
  6. Strengthen relevant part of our joints especially lower back and knee
  7. Put in place a physical therapy or massage to balance weak or overloaded muscle
  8. Lastly, have enough rest.
