Using sports physio treatment method by applying sports science nutrition and diet to improve musculoskeletal disorder.

Having associated and worked in the Wellness Industry for the last 25 years or so, it has been a great transcending learning process of how one’s illnesses, diseases and pains can be prevented, if we strive to be educated with updated information, knowledge and skills.
As a Certified Wellness Clinician, I have not stopped educating myself, and conducting researches and upgrading both my knowledge and skills in leading my team of therapists, to ensure that all my innovative and effective treatments are well defined and delivered. I have encountered valuable amount of mishaps’ experiences, sometimes painful, from my clients about their personal ordeal encounters on their health and physical wellness.
I have taught how a good balanced state of mental wellness has tremendous impact and attribution to a healthier body and soul. Psychologically, if our mind is not stable, undisciplined and weak, most likely than not, we usually end up submitting to temptations of poor nutrition or fatty foods, heavy smoking and excessive alcohol, laziness, inactive social lifestyle and no physical exercises, which then attributes to poor health.
Knowing the importance of healthier diets and exercise is inadequate; the journey to holistic wellness is to ensure that one must be equipped with prevention measures knowledge and understanding of not getting into malnutrition, poor nourishment or nutrition and sports injuries. No two human “Body” is genetically identical of how they function hence, to begin with and embark on the journey of healthier lifestyle, first, we have to listen to the threshold and strength of our body self-regulatory mechanism, defence, repair and innate energy capability and capacity.
“Prevention is always better than cure” To begin with a sports or activity it is advisable to have a personal health screening and check. Especially for men over 45 years and women 55 years of age is highly recommended to have a thorough health screen before embarking to any vigorous intensity exercise. Set a feasible goal, program or exercises schedule & management, define the type of exercise and set principle of training: F.I.T.T
F – Frequency, or number of time needed to train in a week / month
I – Intensity, the magnitude of energy required for the exercises eg: high or low impact aerobics.
T – Time, duration as how long set for the exercises or sports in order to obtain benefit from the program
T – Type of exercises or activities that will aid the development of the fitness component.
Therefore, implement and keep a balanced healthy diet management together with the physical activities, which would enhance the performance of the sports to maximize the end result of the goal. I highly recommend sports or physical exercises which are inclined to cardiorespiratory fitness and strengthening exercises especially for special population of the older adults. The special population which I have worked with generally have certain physical and health conditions, ie: degenerative joints, musculoskeletal pain disorder, Hypertension, Diabetes 2, Cardiorespiratory Syndrome and many more underline related health adversity due to lifestyle. They have benefited from my Exercise Is Medicine Program which help them to reduce blood pressure, decrease of body fat, increase heart lung function, induces sleep and reduce anxiety, depression and stress.
I would conduct a submaximal and maximal heart rate test on my client to understand their heart rate then determine the estimated VO2 max before recommending the kind of sports and incorporate the principle of training FITT to the program. Such process and procedures to starts a physical exercises is pretty time consuming for most people however, the preventive measures of injuries goes a long way and is certainly wiser to be safe than sorry, which most people choose to ignore them. My association with other form of injuries and pain from poor postures and muscle imbalance in sitting, standing, sleeping, dancing, lifting and driving, are relatively common that is affecting all ages.
Statistics show that more than 80% of our population are literally suffering from some physical pain which is a result of poor posture, repetitive strain on the back, injuries, accident, inactive sedentary lifestyle and even using the wrong pillow, mattresses, sofa, office work chair and desk. Through my seminars and workshops educating and treating the customers with their accumulated trauma disorder and musculoskeletal disorders symptoms (MSDs), it is not adequate for their rehabilitation process. Basically, their daily activities and habitual postures knowledge and the right implementation to support and protect them from further aggravation, is relatively significant to their overall physical improvement.
Most people spend 6 – 8 hours a day on their sleep which make up ONE THIRD of their life span, and 5 – 7 hours spend on their work desk which is also the equivalent, in another word they are either resisting or suffering the balance ONE THIRD of their life in PAIN.
I had an encounter recently with a young 12 year old girl, she had undergone a scoliosis surgery when she was 10 years old, and it was likely a congenital vertebral anomaly condition so the operation was the right decision at this age. She had a thoracic spinal correction with spinal fusion with instrumentation, (implanting a metal rod that assisted in the straightening of the spine). Research on the spinal column straightening process of scoliosis which scientifically has proven to be highly successful. It is a cosmetic surgical procedure to rectify the curvature of the young growing spine before the skeletal maturity, which makes the surgery very risky and challenging.
Currently she is under our post-op physio care due to several areas of tension and instability in the lower back muscle because of the lumbar scoliosis, which also resulted in her hips imbalance and leg length discrepancies. We incorporated a unique program which involved Physiotherapy integrating Sports Science, applying Fitness exercises and spinal decompression therapy on the respective shoulder blade and hips area.
After which, with the pelvic tilting and dropping exercises, spinal extension & flexes exercises and then followed with postural alignment as well as spinal manipulation. To enhance the program therapy, physical stretches were implemented at the end of her treatment so as to enhance her flexibility to alleviate her pain.
She has been very consistent with our therapies so far and I am glad she is progressing well. Life is a long learning process through experience, researches and academic study, my passion in serving and helping people in the wellness and health industry is beyond words of expression and gratification. I strive to pursue other wellness qualification and certification to enhance my capacity in order to excel to the next highest level.
